Connecting to Sylverant
Unlike SCHTServ, the Sylverant project requires registration for PSO PC players. (Dreamcast users do not need to register.) If you already have a serial number and access key, you do not need a new one. To register an account, go to:
http://sylverant.net/account/new.php
and enter your desired username (it does not have to be the name of one of your characters), password, and e-mail address.
Once you have registered, go to:
http://sylverant.net/account/login.php
and enter your credentials. Click "Manage Serial Numbers/Access Keys", and then click either "Register PSOPC Key" to register your serial number and access key if you have one, or if you do not, click "Generate new PSOPC Key".
Once you are registered with the server, all of your characters will have the same Guild Card number, and you can log on with any of them.
How do you connect to Sylverant, you ask? That's a good question.
The easiest way to connect to Sylverant is to go to the PC Downloads section of the main site, and select the appropriate PSO Executable from the list. The following variations are available (direct links):
If you have Windows 9x/ME/NT/2K/XP, use one of the first three files. If you have Windows Vista or 7, the Vista & 7 pso.exe files have been pre-patched to allow you to type.
If you are a new player and need to register a serial number and access key inside PSO, you will also need to download the Online Executable so that you can connect to the Sylverant patch server to complete the registration.
If you're on the Dreamcast, you need only change DNS 1 to 67.222.144.120 to connect.
That's it! Post here if you have any questions.
The following information in the spoiler is for people who either don't want to use pre-patched executables, or for people who may want to play on more than one server. It takes more effort, but it does work.

- Spoiler:
- If you don't want pre-patched executables, or you plan to play on multiple servers, you can use the ippatch.exe in the PC Downloads section of my site to patch pso.exe to "sylverant.net" (or the DNS/IP address of whatever server you want to use) and connect that way, but if you need to register still, you also need to patch online.exe, and there is no tool for that. You could do it manually in a hex editor, but that's a lot of work.
As such, I recommend modifying your HOSTS file, which can be done easily in this fashion on XP, Vista, and 7 to my knowledge:- Press the Windows key + R to bring up the "Run" prompt.
- In the prompt window, paste the following:
- Code:
notepad.exe C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\HOSTS
- Notepad should open the file. At the top, press Enter to add a new line, and paste the following text on that line:
- Code:
67.222.144.120 gsproduc.ath.cx
- Select File -> Save to update the file. You need Administrator rights to do this, so the UAC may ask you to log in if you're on Vista/7.
- Close Notepad, and you're ready to play!
To avoid any confusion, the top of your HOSTS file should look like this, at least if you're on Windows XP:- Code:
67.222.144.120 gsproduc.ath.cx
# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows
#
- Press the Windows key + R to bring up the "Run" prompt.

Re: Connecting to Sylverant
To those people who dont want to bother with that, you can just use IPPatch.

Re: Connecting to Sylverant
If you're not sure what you're doing, you could break the executables by patching them manually. Just follow the steps above and it will work fine.

I was IDK what. I followed the instructions. Gonna edit this post if it works.
Seems to be working. Windowed mode isn't working but what ever.

Re: Connecting to Sylverant
I saw you online, so it does indeed seem to be working.
As for window mode, does it open and then immediately close? If so, you may need to check the bit depth of your display. Right click on the desktop and select properties, and then go to the advanced tab. Check the available colour depths. If 32-bit colour is available, you need to use that. If only 16 and 24-bit colour options are available, you need to select 16, at least on XP.

Any info would be much appriciated... I really look forward to playing on a decent V2 ship once more...about bloody time
And a massive thanks to Ive's and Bluecrab for making it happen.

Re: Connecting to Sylverant
I already had a registration so I registered through the server and did the ippatch method. But when I start I still need to register through the exe and when I do it stops at the patch to get on. I tried the online/offline exe and I get a server maintenance issue.

Re: Connecting to Sylverant
There are patched Sylverant-connecting PSO exes over at Dreamcast-Talk that you can use to connect. They contain a few other miscellaneous patches (v1 name detection patch, cusshack), but otherwise should be normal clean exes patched to connect to Sylverant.
Here's the link that has them in it over there:

Re: Connecting to Sylverant
Phew, I finally went through and fixed all of the executables. The PC Downloads section of the site now has these pso.exe files that will auto-connect to the Sylverant Shipgate:
I also patched online.exe to connect to the Sylverant patch server, so if you still need to register, use the new online.exe so you don't get Error 3 when you try to register your serials.
Oh, I also finally uploaded deathrabbit's loader, which can switch between full screen and windowed modes by patching pso.exe in the memory, as well as having a no weapon drop memory patch. You can use either the full screen or full screen Vista & 7 pso.exe to make the full screen/windowed switching work.
- Full screen
- Windowed
- Windowed + Mouse
- Full screen Vista & 7
- Windowed Vista & 7
- Windowed + Mouse Vista & 7

Re: Connecting to Sylverant
I still see the descriptions for the old ones...
Also, I'm pretty sure I saw an update on January 4th on the main page but I can't see it now...
Are my cookies on the fritz or is it not me?
(I mean, will I be able to download the new files anyway?)

Re: Connecting to Sylverant
Your browser is either loading the pages from the cache, or you're visiting psopalace.schtserv.com, which I am not updating anymore. Use either psopalace.funurl.com, or go directly to psopalace.sylverant.net. I have also updated the first post of this topic.

Yep, that would explain it, thanks!
I guess when Crono finds out he'll stop hosting it on schtserv, right?

Re: Connecting to Sylverant
When I told him I was tired of doing registrations so I was going to spare myself some trouble and stop registering Gamecube users, he blackmailed me to continue by threatening to end my hosting, so I assume he will terminate my hosting when he finds out about this, but you never know. He'd have to actually do some reading to know what I'm doing.

I suppose he could still end your adminhood, though...

I guess it wouldn't matter if you've moved on...

Re: Connecting to Sylverant
I'm kinda going off topic hear but I can honestly say that when Chrono took over I have not been happy with the server. Ives, I've seen all the hard work you have done for the server and in trying to keep V2 going. But what Chronos is trying to do to you is just plain wrong. Then he expects us to donate to get a new host for the server? Honestly he should let the server die because he's ran it to the ground. We V2 PSO players will survive just like we did when GC,XBOX and BB was released.

Re: Connecting to Sylverant
The database seems to show that your account exists... Are you sure you're typing in the password you used to register properly? If you still can't get in once you're sure that you're doing that, I'll manually reset your password to something simple (and you can change it whatever you want later). Let me know.
Re: Connecting to Sylverant
I know this sounds like a stupid question.
So i Registered, got the guild card # , Downloaded the "Full screen Vista & 7" and the "online.exe".
So Do i go to "C:\Program Files (x86)\SEGA\PhantasyStarOnline" and replace the files there?
I did this ^ and then when i click "Online.exe" nothing happens?
Thanks for being so patient ^_^

Re: Connecting to Sylverant
Yes, you'll need to replace the files in that directory. You'll be replacing pso.exe, autorun.exe, and online.exe in total (the Full screen Vista & 7 pack should have the first two, hopefully). Then run the autorun.exe. You should be able to get it from there.
