Re-creating characters on the new Sylverant server
Salutations! and thank you for answering my post. My friend and I have been playing co-op on our own Sodaboy Tethiela server for nearly half a year now. And while it's been fun enough, we want to move on to a newer, more dependable server. At this time trading/dropping items is a little iffy to put it lightly. And accurate enemy placement between clients is all to hell.
So I went looking and found V2 of the Sylverant Server. "Private Phantay Star Online Server version 2 (pPSOs2)" Setup was simple enough, and so was port forwarding. But now I need to be able to re-create the login and character creation data we previously had. Does anyone know of a character editor or if this server will remember enemy placement?

Re: Re-creating characters on the new Sylverant server
You are seriously mixing apples and oranges, so you're going to need some information before you proceed.
There are four versions of PSO: Ver.1 is on the Dreamcast, Ver.2 is on the Dreamcast and the PC, Ver.3 is on the Gamecube and Xbox, and Ver.4 is BB on the PC.
Tethealla supports BB. BB saves your character data on the server.
pPSOsv2 is for Ver.2. Character data is saved by the client, either on a VMU (DC) or HDD (PC). This program is an extremely outdated version of the SCHTServ software, and it is barely functional. It only supports Ver.1 and Ver.2. You really shouldn't use it unless you have no other choice.
Sylverant supports DC, PC, GC, and BB, but the BB support is essentially a novelty at this point. You can only walk around in the lobby; you can't actually play.
If you want to play BB, you must continue using Tethealla or play on SCHTServ (the full server). They are your only options. Nothing else supports BB in a playable fashion at this time. Sylverant will support playing BB in the future, but there are many other things that must be finished first.
If you want to play DC, PC, or GC, you can play on Sylverant, but remember that they have less content than BB does. If you want Episode IV, you have to play BB. If you want Episode II, you have to play GC or BB. If you want the "classic" PSO experience before all the rebalanced game mechanics, you can play DC or PC.
As for enemy placement, that is a limitation of PSO itself. Enemies are controlled completely by the client, because PSO was designed to be fully playable on a dial-up connection. To make that work, Sega had to make the client control as many things as possible, so that the network requirements would be small enough for a modem to handle the traffic. In short, enemies stay relatively synchronized as long as all players see each other in the same positions on every screen. If there's lag that causes players to be in different locations on different screens, then the enemies desynchronize. The downside is that laggy players are out of sync, but the upside is that unlike modern games where the server handles everything, laggy players can actually play PSO. Modern games will break completely and enemies will refuse to die, move, and other things in a modern game where the server has to control everything. PSO will be a little jerky if you lag, but it still works relatively well.

Thanks for straightening that conundrum. So it sounds like the Schthack server might be my best bet for something a shade more dependable. I'll poke around the Schthack forums about a server side save editor. Minus that, it's worth sticking to the sodaboy server I currently use.

Re: Re-creating characters on the new Sylverant server
If you move to SCHTServ, you have to start over. You're not allowed to run your own server, because the software isn't public, and you're also not allowed to import a character from another private server.

Well that settles it then. The Sodaboy server might have flaws, but it's good enough to get some quality playtime in. That's sufficient if no server can solve the enemy placement problem.
btw I looked around some more. There's definenty one or two backwater PSO servers out there. But none appear as well developed as some of the larger name ones. More importantly, it's very rare and hard to find editors that allow cross-server transfer or re-creation of characters on a new server.
