Character Recovery or Something of the Sort

I Recently had to wipe my computer for various reasons, So all of my data got erased from my computer. I have all the files I used for the original install, including my serials and what-not (I backed them up on a daily basis). I was just wondering if there was a way I could re install PSO and still play with my characters I had before. Thanks for any help in advance!

Install PSO again, start the game with the autorun, select online mode, enter your serials again, make a new character, go online, quit in the lobby, delete the 5 save files from the Backup folder, and copy your 5 original save files into the Backup folder. Your old characters should work after that.
