Installation issues
Hello, first post and all
I have a problem with PSO v2 for PC and I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on a possible solution. I've recently downloaded Aleron Ives' PSO v2 and tried to install it on my computer but I always get an error when trying to do so. More accurately, at the beginning of the installation, right after selecting a language for the remainder of the process and clicking on 'OK', it starts to install but then an InstallShield error message pops up and says "1628: Failed to complete installation".
Any ideas on what is causing this? For reference:
1. This really are Ives' files, downloaded from the site and not some other site.
2. I made sure that I tried out all possible compatibility modes during setup attempts.
3. I'm using Windows Vista Home edition with all updates installed, which shouldn't be a problem since a friend of mine has his copy installed on the same OS.
Thanks in advance

Re: Installation issues
How are you installing it? By clicking on a file? Running it from ISO burned CD? Or are you using the virtual clone drive? If you're following the read me word for word, I would think you wouldn't have any problems. I know I didn't. (then again, I'm not running Vista)
Re: Installation issues
Hello
I try and execute the Setup.exe directly on the main folder, which I access through a virtual drive program. I've tried both PowerIso and Alcohol 120%. I've followed the readme closely - or as much of the readme as applicable, since I can't get past the installation, of course.
Cheers

Re: Installation issues
Oh no not this problem... This is caused by some problem with InstallShield itself. Hmm... if you can, try to update InstallShield. As I recall, it's very difficult to find the update for it. (I can't even remember if there is one, it's been a long time since someone had this error.) The only surefire method I know of to fix the problem is unfortunately to reformat because your InstallShield is somehow messed up. My only experience with this problem is on XP, though. Vista might be different.

Re: Installation issues
Thanks for the replies, everyone. Since Vista was giving me some issues, I took the time to format my hard drive and reinstall XP. I tried reinstalling PSO as well and it worked! Now I'm only waiting for the serial confirmation
Thanks, everyone

Pre-installation issues
Yo. I'm kinda new here, I have PSO PC, I have serials, but my problem is the pre-installation. When ever I run setup.exe, I get this error:
H/setup.exe is not suitable for MS-DOS. Click close to close the program.
I use DAEMON Tools, a clone drive, and XP. Please HELP!!! (so I can play PSO) (maybe not online yet, but maybe when I'm older)

Re: Installation issues
Have you tried using Virtual CloneDrive? I have no experience with Daemon Tools.

Pre-installation issues
As for Daemon Tools, it's basically the same as VCD. AND Alchohol 52%.
Did you see the error?
Did you see the error?
Re: Installation issues
Yes, and my only guess is that it says that because Daemon Tools sucks.
If it does that with other virtual drives try burning the discs. If it still says that, my only recommendation is a reformat or try to update InstallShield.

Uh.. no, I think you are wrong!!! Reason is that that error also comes up when I try to install crappy games for my sister. The installer works on other comps, but not that one.
Edit: I have a sudden idea. Do you think it may work if I re-insall XP?

Re: Installation issues
It does sound like your PC is borked if PSO isn't the only game that does this. Try reformatting.

Installation Problems- different problem!?!?
Ok, I have reinstalled XP and installed pso on the comp I was having problems with. Now, when I run setup on this comp, it automatically stops! WHY DOES THESE @$%@#@% INSTALLATION PROBLEMS HAPPEN TO ME?
IT MIGHT BE BETTER IF THE SETUP DIDN'T INVOLVE A COMMAND LINE!

Re: Installation issues
Um, the setup doesn't involve a command line. o.o;

WHAT!?!?!?!
I'M SORRY, BUT WHEN IT'S ON MY COMP, A LITTLE WINDOW POPS UP THAT LOOKS LIKE A COMMAND PROMPT!!!! HOW DO YOU LIKE THAT, ALREON?!?! ... sorry, just STILL pissed off.
Re: Installation issues
My point is that if a command prompt is popping up, then something is still wrong with your Windows installation. >_>;

Well...
Then should I install MS-DOS, and see what that does?
If that doesn't work, then give me an option that doesn't involve taking this comp all the way over to best buy to have it fixed.

Wait...
OK, so maybe I lied about my sista's comp having pso on it, but it still can't install. I will reinstall XP, and MS Office, and MS_DOS and see what happens, but I will uninstall Daemon Tools and use Alcohol 120% and see what that does.
...
I will also do the uninstalling and installing Alcohol 120% on this comp. I'll reply if it works!

AHHHHH!!!
Geez, I'm so pissed off, I want to scream! It is still getting this problem. And, question? My disk one's INSTALL folder is empty. Is that why it doesn't work? Should I move those Windows Installer Packages in there?
Re: Installation issues
It sounds like your download is corrupt... you did get PSO_PC_Ives_ISOs_v2.zip right?

Now i did.
I just redownloaded the pso isos and heres a tip: change your readme to use WinRAR rather than WiZ. It's just faster.
Don't worry: checked the whole thing! Now i'm putting it on this comp!

Yay!!!
I got pso installed on this comp! now i need to do it on the other one. I'll be online on this comp when my familly isn't around. (they can't trust me with comps, i have already broke 3. Oh well. They usually hate me being online, offline aint a problem, but they wonder what the program is that i'm using too much ) See you on the servers!
