Hero & Daughter
Download Quest
Required VMU Blocks for Dreamcast: 78
A secret
request from
the Principal.
What could
he want?
Client: Principal
Quest:
I have a personal
request that I
want to make.
Reward: ??? Meseta
***
My project from the BB Government quests is complete. Though there are like 15 Government quests, 90% of the maps used in them were copies of freeplay maps, and thus not fit for use in quests. Instead of wasting time porting them (which wouldn't even be fully possible, because they use the same areas twice in most of the quests, which doesn't work in Ver.2), I took the unique maps from each quest and compiled them into one large quest that spans all the areas and bosses. It's not as long as a full run, because the unique maps were mostly one room on each floor, with a fair amount of enemies in each.
If anyone cares, these are where the maps came from:
Forest 1: 1-3
Forest 2: 1-2
Cave 1: 2-1
Cave 2: 2-2
Cave 3: 2-3
Mine 1: 3-1
Mine 2: 3-2
Ruins 1: 4-1
Ruins 2: 4-3
Ruins 3: 4-4
The Forest 1 map is a clone of one of the freeplay maps, however it's one that you can't get in offline mode, so that works out well. The others are from the second iteration of that floor in each quest (the second Cave 1 in 2-1, the second Cave 2 in 2-2, etc.).
Yes, the quest gives more than Meseta, but you can find out what it gives.

- Spoiler:
Since Crono is a lazy ass and refuses to fix the Download Quest ship, Lee has been gracious enough to host the quest for us. He has set up a shipgate to allow for the quest to be downloaded. He's also set up a DynDNS so that we can get his latest IP, and a DNS server to allow Dreamcast users to connect directly to him.
His DynDNS address is: dlqserver.ath.cx
If you ping it, you'll get his current IP. As of the time of this posting, it's 90.203.13.148.
To connect on PC, you can either patch pso.exe to his name or IP, or you can edit your HOSTS file to redirect gsproduc.ath.cx to his current IP.
To connect on DC, edit your DNS 1 to his latest IP, and then connect like normal.
On either DC or PC, select the Offline Quest ship and download the quest. You can then go to the lobby and log off. Once you have the quest you can play it offline, so re-patch pso.exe/remove your HOSTS file edit for PC and put your DNS 1 back to normal on DC so you can go back to playing on SCHTServ.
Yes, I realize this is inconvenient compared to just getting the quest from the main gate, but it's better than not having the quest at all. Note that if Lee's IP changes from the one above, his ship will lock up when you select it, and you'll get disconnected a few seconds later. He doesn't have a static IP, so eventually it's going to change.
Yes, the quest gives more than Meseta, but you can find out what it gives.

Also will the quest give out points? just kinda curious

Re: Hero & Daughter
The rewards are well worth it, but not all of them are directly apparent.
It does give Photon Points. It's currently the only offline quest that does.

ok
alright, my next task is getting to the quest now, I had a friend ping the IP address and I patched it into the IP Patcher that I downloaded on the site but when I replaced the pso.exe, I was not able to go online, I could use a little help either through PM or here cuz Im terrible with network stuff lol, I think I'm just doing something wrong so any help would be greatly appreciated as I am curious to try this quest

Re: Hero & Daughter
If you're using ippatch.exe, just enter dlqserver.ath.cx and click patch. ippatch has to be in the same directory as pso.exe.

Re: Hero & Daughter
Help me put pressure on Cronub to fix the main DLQ ship so that we don't have to do this for future quests. >_<

@Crono
Fix the v1/v2 download quest ship before I buy Mario Kart Wii just so I can personally beat you senseless.

Re: Hero & Daughter
Yeah, like that. The only thing missing is you forgot to insult him. Insulting him usually gets him to reply, at least. Next time say that he's a shitty MKW player. ;D
Anyway, it's only a one time download, so I hope people will go ahead and grab it. It's worth your while, especially if you uncover the hidden side quest.

...oh dear. Um.. a sidequest?
I've never been able to find those...
I've had to restart plenty of games because I wanted to get special items that are "missable"....
heheh... I better plan 3 hours, an internet connection, and a bubble bath ready for this quest.

Re: Hero & Daughter
Oh yeah, someone told me a while ago that it was missing. It used to be up, so Crono must have reverted the DLQ ship.

He isn't hosting it anymore, although he might if someone asked him.

Re: Hero & Daughter
Since I was already working on the Triad -Maximum Attack- updates, I decided to update this quest as well. I fixed a few of the text wrapping problems, corrected a few minor bugs, and most importantly, I raised the number of Photon Points you receive from completing it. The original version was released before I revised the Photon Point scale, so you didn't get very many points from it. I've already updated the Download Quest ship, so you can get the update for both DC and PC at your convenience. If you're using the Dreamcast version, you can just delete the two old files from your VMU before going online to download the update. If you're on PC, you'll need to delete the old files from the Backup folder manually.

Won't it simply overwrite the file, if you redownload?

Re: Hero & Daughter
No. I tried. It appears that PSO detects you have the same quest and doesn't bother displaying the second copy, so you won't be able to play updates unless you delete the originals first.

What files do I delete from the backup folder? For both Hero & daughter and Triad?

Re: Hero & Daughter
The quest files are named like PSO____004, PSO____005, PSO____006, PSO_____007, etc. Each quest is comprised of two files, but there's no way to know which is which aside from the fact that PSO saves the quests in the order you download them (and it displays them in the quest menu in the order you download them), and the two files for H&D should be 7 and 33.5 KiB, while the files for TMA should be 7 and 14 KiB, IIRC. That is to say, the even-numbered files are both 7 for those quests, while the odd-numbered files are different sizes. If you remember when you downloaded the quests, the modified time on the files may also help you.
A simple way to tell which is which is to just write down the order the quests appear in the list offline. The first one is PSO___004 / PSO___005, the second one is PSO____006 / PSO____007, and so forth. The Dreamcast doesn't have this problem, seeing as the quest names actually appear in the VMU file browser in the Dreamcast BIOS. PC's save system isn't quite as user friendly, but it has the benefit of essentially unlimited storage space. You should theoretically be able to save 500 download quests, which would take a lot of VMUs, lol.
