I thought Steam was just a way for people to download games + spyware, but according to Wikipedia, apparently it has communication functions now. I believe some people have made patches for BB to support Xfire, but I don't think anyone has done the same for PC. I think if you want messaging abilities while playing PC, your only option is to use window mode and either TeamSpeak or your IM client/protocol of choice.

Yeah I was wondering about Steam as well, but nope, I haven't heard anything about it. So I'm stuck using windowed mode. It would be nice if they had an overlay and what have you. I'd like to take some screenshots with it.

Also, Ives, Steam has had communications capabilities for awhile now XD

Why would you want to use the autorun, anyway? You have to waste time with the intro movie that doesn't usually work and connecting to the patch server every time you want to launch the game. It's annoying.

I was using the autorun for the longest time until i read what aaron_yumi wrote. Though i never had to deal with the intro (which also worked fine for me) since i ticked it off in the options menu. However, yay for steam over lay. Thanks aaron for the tip ^^.


EDIT: Hmmm I did come across a problem though...When i use the offline_online.exe I can't type in game...However with the autorun, I can...Any ideas? I'm using XP if that helps.

Have you disabled Advanced Text Services on pso.exe? (Right click on it and select "Properties".)

It wasn't even checked, when i looked...=/

ATS is the only cause of being unable to type on XP, to my knowledge.

The odd thing is, I don't have a problem with this, using the autorun.exe, only when i use the online_offline.exe. but I guess i could play with the IME a little later and see how that fairs, even though I'm using XP... =/

Yeah, neither the IME or Deathrabbits loader worked. That's ok, I guess I'll just use the autorun. It's no biggy, just gonna have to bite the bullet and play in windowed mode.

What does using the autorun have to do with window mode? You can use window mode with a loader (and deathrabbit's lets you switch between window and full screen).

I have to use windowed mode because I use Steam, and since deathrabbit's loader, and either of the offline_online.exe prevents me from typing in-game, I have to use the autorun.exe. For some reason, that allows me to chat in-game while the others don't. So in order to chat in-game AND use Steam I have to use both windowed and Autorun.exe. I know it's retarded but for some reason that's the way my computer likes it.

I haven't tried using the steam overlay for PSO PC yet, so that's an interesting idea. =) I should try it out at some point!

ive never used steam at all. i'd like to run pso in fullscreen, but then i can't do other things while i'm mag feeding, etc. can this steam thing fix that?

I know this is necroposting, since no one has posted in this thread for some months now, however I just wanted to let you all know, I fixed my steam overlay issue with typing in game and how I fixed it...(it was so simple it's stupid)

If anyone else had the same problem I did, here's an unexpected easy fix.

Problem: Couldn't type In-game while using steam overylay, using Deathrabbits loader, standard online_offline.exe and autorun.exe. However could type while using ONLY the Autorun.exe (without Steam Overlay) on Windows XP.

Solution: Download Windows Vista/7 PSO.exe with typing enabled.

Yes, this worked on Windows XP while both enabling me to type in-game WITH the Steam overlay. I came across this while installing PSO today, hankering to play again, after beating the normal difficulty on Diablo 2, and as a break before i go and play on nightmare, also since the Minecraft Server i play on is generally dead these days.

I hope this solves the problem for anyone else in the future who wishes to play PSO via steam.

Well, I'm gonna patch the living shit out of PSO right now, and play some offline to level up a new character...Since I've done a lot of things wrong with my Rascaseal and playing them as a main just blows and doesn't fit my play style (charge in and hope you don't die XD). Catch me on Steam if you're up for an online run!
