Death Penalty
This isn't something that gets talked about too often, but I think it should be brought up. Various PSO versions have different death penalties, and I think it would be advisable to look at them and perhaps change them.
First, we have the PSO Ver.1/2 penalties:
On the plus side, both of these things are "refundable", i.e. you do not lose anything permanently. If you revive you can simply pick them up again, and if you have to go to the hospital you can just walk back and get them. The downsides though are of course if you're playing with someone malicious they can steal your stuff, and even if you're playing with friends they can take it by accident. Since Meseta doesn't have any pick-up protection, someone with 900,000 Meseta can pick up your 900,000 Meseta, and then instantly 800,000 Meseta disappears. It's also a bit annoying to have to re-sort your inventory once you get your weapon back.
Then, we have the Episode I&II penalties:
On the plus side, you don't have to worry about people stealing your stuff. I can tell you though the Mag penalty is extremely annoying, if you go to an area where you have a hard time and die a lot, you end up with a really low Synchro Mag. It wouldn't be so bad if you could feed it as much as you wanted, but constantly having to tinker with Star Atomizers is a major pain. It's also lame to have your Meseta taken away. To my knowledge, if you have a Scape Doll or someone revives you you won't lose it.
Then, we have the Blue Burst penalties:
The same Mag crap applies, though the EXP penalty is by far the worst. You can lose several 100,000 EXP if you're level 199 from dying once, lol. This is why on Sega BB people never did anything challenging, as you would probably lose more EXP than you would gain. You can't level down, but if you reach level 199 and get 1 point away from level 200 and then die a lot, you can return to the start of level 199.
IMO, we ought to use a system like this:
I would suggest also that Meseta pick up be fixed to be like Monomates so you can't hold more than the maximum. What I mean is that if I have 7 Monomates and somebody drops 5, this would give me 12 so I can't pick them up unless he drops 3 Monomates or less. Meseta should work similarly, if the amount of Meseta on the ground is 1,000 or greater and picking it up would cause you to exceed 999,999 Meseta, then you should be unable to pick it up.
First, we have the PSO Ver.1/2 penalties:
- You drop your equipped weapon.
- You drop your Meseta.

- Your equipped Mag's Synchro decreases by 5%.
- If you have to return to the hospital, the Meseta you're carrying gets cut in half.

You are right. I been trying to acomplish Dr. Osto's quest (if I am not mistaken), in orther to get to talk with Montague at the end of the mission, and turn my delsaber's right arm into a wep. However MOME keeps dying at the boss.. I figured out I should get some Sol atomizers with me when I fight it back. Anyways, what I wanted to say is that in the other day I died at the same time as him, and so I lost my cash/ wep. Too bad I couldn't get em back, unless I would not have saved game data

Re: Death Penalty
...You lost your weapon on Dr. Osto's research? That's odd, I thought on the offline quests you would get transported to Pioneer 2 before you had a chance to drop your stuff. It's been years since I've died in an offline quest, though.

Re: Death Penalty
Sega "fixed" that quest in GC so that when you enter De Rol Le, MOME says "I think I'll play dead for a while" and then he just lies down dead for the whole fight so that you can't lose due to him getting killed lmao.

Re: Death Penalty
Neat I didn't know about that xD From what I been hearing lately, the GC ver. seems much easier.. no pillar activation, MOME (*ยง€@!) gives no trouble.. and maybe more things!

Interesting
Wow, thanks for the info. I had no clue different versions had different death penalties.
I think a fair penalty would include losing the amount of meseta needed to ressurect you at the hospital. If you have no meseta on you when you die, they either take it from the bank, or ressurect you but don't recover your HP and TP fully or more than 5 points.
Dropping a weapon was always scary for me. It was one reason I'd get so stressed out playing PSO in the past.

Re: Death Penalty
I played today the same quest again, I was mistaken, it's the Unsealed door quest with MOME. He died again, even before reaching the boss xD Since my char is a ranger and I can't spell resta, I am now trying to find the most Sol atomizers I can find

Re: Death Penalty
Um, Star Atomizers let you heal people. Sol Atomizers recover status effects.
@ Stasher
Reviving at the hospital is free. Healing at the hospital costs a mere 10 Meseta, which is hardly a penalty. IMO dropping your Meseta is the best way, as having your Meseta cut in half is really annoying and means people are afraid to carry cash with them.

Well, yah, I know it's cheep to heal yourself at the hospital, but to be completely revived should cost more, methinks. I know it'd be stupid to try to change the coding now, but if SEGA was to do it over again, I think my suggestion for a death penalty would be more fair/realistic. For instance, getting revived after being killed by De Rol Le would cost more than if it was from being killed by a rag rappy.
Oh, an idea popped into my head. I was dying one day and thought, "Hmm, if only I could decide at the moment of death if I want to use my scape doll or not. I would not have to waste my scape dolls if I was playing with others that have reviving abilities."
Re: Death Penalty
Well you can revive someone before they use a scape doll, but you have to be really fast

Re: Death Penalty
I always like to challenge myself and see if I can revive people before their Doll kicks in, especially on Falz.

Here's a thought...
Instead of your suggested penalty, how about:
Your equiped weapon only unequips.
You drop a quarter of your meseta. (Unless you can't code that, if so, keep the drop all meseta)
Just a thought, you don't have to agree.
(The world hurts when you forget to stop at a bank and you lose all your meseta when you die)
@ TreamCaster
Dude, a quick tip on the unsealed door: when the lights go out at that @$#%#$#$%#$ing De Rol Le, just protect MOME, and nothing else. (Yes, that means using your own body to defend him, unless you cast Deband[but even after you cast deband, you still have to heal him like hell])

Re: Death Penalty
Well dropping your Meseta is the main penalty, if you drop 1 Meseta then it's not much of a penalty anymore. We shouldn't make dieing be completely free, haha.

Okay, that's fine.
Haha, aleron. Sorry for being such a pain by double-posting. P.S. Check your mail.
Re: Death Penalty
Just to clarify, my suggestions were NOT suggestions for this game, just an idea/rationalization. Don't count what I said as a vote towards changing the games death penalty in any way.

Lol, just read this now.
Thanks for the advice btw xD

Re: Death Penalty
I would LOVE this, along with the no weapon drop, though some people just solve the weapon problem with deathrabbit's loader. Maybe for all the times Ren Kasami and company(including me) die at ult falz, everyone won't be picking up other poeple's meseta. And occasionally thoughout normal gameplay, accidental pickup of other people's meseta happens.Aleron Ives wrote:

It's too bad we can't do it, but oh well. It's a nice thought at any rate.

Re: Death Penalty
I don't see why the loss of Meseta after the early stages if the game is a problem. At any one time you're never going to need more than say 250k (to buy healing items, a high % weapon from the shop? and maybe a better type of frame with 4 slots that you've been after), and by the time you're level 50-60 you should have built up at least 1 million anyway.
The loss of the weapon when you die is a problem, but as long as online, you are playing with people you trust (This is V1/V2 and not BlueBurst, so the majority of players using the DC/PC versions of the game are less likely to be immature kids who like stealing other peoples items).
It would be useful to add in the changes, but i don't mind it the way it is. And the V2 has no synchro penalty when you die? That is good news, i'm too used to the GC version

I dunno if it's the same, but when I introduced my friend to PSOPC two years ago, there were a lot of thieves. I dunno how it is now since he accidentally deleted it off of his hard drive. x.x

There are a lot. You have it the other way around Seismica. These days there's more idiots than trustworthy people. That's why I locked the game we were in earlier.
