STAGE 9 IS FIXED!

-Drumroll please- Clearil2

Whee. Yes, this clear picture was taken in a Dreamcast and PC team. The FSOD bug in Stage 9 has been fixed, it is now possible to clear all stages in a cross-platform team. The English Stage 9 quest file has been modified to be compatible with the Dreamcast Stage 9 file.

There are some limitations to this fix, however. To play Stage 9, your team must meet one of these requirements (it doesn't matter which):

  • Everyone must be using the Dreamcast version.
  • Everyone must be using the PC version on the English language setting.
  • Everyone must be using the PC version and not using the English language setting.
  • If both Dreamcast and PC versions are used, all PC users must be using the English language setting.

As long as your team falls into one of these categories, you'll be fine. The reason for the limitations is that only the English Stage 9 log has been modified. The other languages have not. As such, if you load Stage 9 in another language, the bug will still occur. Also, because the English Stage 9 log has been modified to be compatible with the Dreamcast Stage 9 log, it is no longer compatible with the non-English Stage 9 PC logs. Therefore even if everyone is using PC, if you mix English and non-English language settings you will crash like before.

The bottom line: Don't play Stage 9 unless you set the game to English first. Wink

There is a small bug created by this fix, which is a bit strange. The blue quest loading bar appears under your action pallete when you load the stage. It stays there for 15 seconds, then it disappears. I imagine this is something that happens on the Dreamcast, but the bar is hidden behind the quest loading screen. Since PC has the loading screens disabled, you can see it until the time when the loading screen would have gone away. Thankfully the bar vanishes after 15 seconds and doesn't seem to cause any problems.

Enjoy Stage 9. Cool (Well, as long as you're playing on Cephei. Razz)

Special thanks go to Lee for teaching me enough about manually hex editing quest files to make this fix possible by copying data from the Dreamcast file into the PC file.
