The Future...
Just figured I'd repost this from the main Sylverant site, in case you all don't check there... I'm too lazy to change the text any, so just go with it:
So, I guess I can make the monthly post of no value now, right? Anyway, you probably noticed that not much changed around here this past month. While I can sit around and make excuses for it (busy with real life, classes, work, etc) its all just been a huge sham. Really, the reason is that I’ve been pursuing my true love in programming: programming for the Sony Playstation 2. In fact, I’ve decided to drop working on anything related to Dreamcast or PSO entirely. Why? It interferes with my true ambitions in programming. I’d rather have the time to devote to what I love than continuing this sham that I’ve been putting on.
The site will be repurposed in the coming days as an anime blog. Why? Because I have this great logo to use for it, all ready to go:
Isn’t it lovely? Anyway, that’s all I have to say for now, in this last of the monthly updates.

Re: The Future...
Of course. I mean... really, could anyone ever see me going into PS2 programming? That community seems to be even less active than the Dreamcast community.hayame wrote:EvilMag wrote:Posted on April 1st 2011

Well it would be cool to see a psu pserver >_>...
Then again you have to put in mind that ps2 producing was relatively cheap, even back then. Edit: or i could be wrong.
Re: The Future...
Never played it, so I don't have much of an interest. Also, random note, but there is an open-source PSU server out there already (granted, its written in Erlang).hayame wrote:Well it would be cool to see a psu pserver >_>...

Heh! I figured it was just crazy enough that nobody would believe it.Aleron Ives wrote:Haha, I think you might have just made his day.mahkbooks wrote:Totally sucked me in. I was genuinely disappointed upon reading you initial post. But am now relieved you were joking
Re: The Future...
awww... too bad... I hoped you try to programm a anime style, round-based PSO-RPG *g* Saw once a flash made "fake" of a game called pso wars if i remember correct. (in fact wasnt a game, just pretending doing some animations)
btw... the first private psu server i have seen started only a few months atfer releasing psu, so it had not to be difficult to make. Only the official patches were delayed, so only a little group used it. But now were psu is completely dead who even cares.

Re: The Future...
This thread is such
Isn't the PS2 much harder to program than the Dreamcast, though? I thought the Dreamcast was one of the (if not the) easiest console to program for... ??? (Unless of course, it's the Xbox, being Windows-based and all, but, then again, the Dreamcast has Windows CE compatibility...)

Re: The Future...
From what I've heard, it is a bit of a pain to program for, yes.Moopthehedgehog wrote:Isn't the PS2 much harder to program than the Dreamcast, though?
Ah, the old Windows CE argument. People seem to misunderstand what that meant in the end. Basically, Microsoft provided an SDK based on Windows CE (and DirectX) for the Dreamcast. Its not built-in, and most things didn't use it. It was slower than using the native SDK (for obvious reasons), and there were really no good compelling reasons to do so. Also, using it without a license would be illegal (much like with the official SDK), so very few homebrew programmers use/used it.I thought the Dreamcast was one of the (if not the) easiest console to program for... ??? (Unless of course, it's the Xbox, being Windows-based and all, but, then again, the Dreamcast has Windows CE compatibility...)
KallistiOS on the other hand, the homebrew "SDK" for the Dreamcast, is fairly easy to program. Its simple and clean, and makes homebrew programming quite easy, in my opinion (then again, I may be a bit biased here). That's really why I have stuck with the Dreamcast in the way that I have: there are legal tools that are easy to use and they are still maintained (even if I'm the main person maintaining them).

Well from a 3d modeler, Programming for the ps2 isn't hard, that is if you have a full development team working with you. The way I see people saying it's "Hard" is most likely because they most likely try to learn it and program things by themselves. I mean if BlueCrab had a full team on his side, they could have probably gotten to a near perfect state of cross compatibility between v2/v3
really. Although I could be wrong, since I always seen game development by a team and never really thought there was any, to no one person team.
Re: The Future...
Dealing with that is still on the table, but it's such a massive project that it has to wait until a summer when there's lots of time to work on it.hayame wrote:they could have probably gotten to a near perfect state of cross compatibility between v2/v3

Indeed, though I was just giving an example. rawr.
