The PSO Calendar

Post  Aleron Ives on Tue May 03, 2011 2:22 am

Now that I have the ability to actually set PSO events on time (huzzah?), it's occurred to me that there's a hole in the PSO calendar.

Of course, we're all familiar with having Valentine's every February, Easter every March/April, Halloween every October, Christmas every December, and even 21st Century/"New Years" every January, but the Sonic theme has no designated yearly time to be activated. Of course, both 21st Century and Sonic modes were designed to be used only one time (to celebrate the new millenium and the release of Sonic Adventure 2, respectively), and Sega didn't use either of those modes on a yearly basis. Even so, we've managed to adopt 21st Century as a New Year's mode, and I think we ought to do the same for Sonic mode.

Interestingly, the hole in the PSO calendar corresponds to the release of Sonic Adventure 2. The longest period without an event is from May - August, and Sonic Adventure 2 was released near the end of June (the official SA2 site says the release date was June 23). As a yearly celebration of Dreamcast 1337ness, I suggest that we begin a new tradition of activating Sonic mode as a yearly makeshift "Summer Event". It could either begin June 1 each year and end June 30 so the Sonic Adventure release date would be near the end of the event, much like the events for Halloween and Christmas, or it could begin on June 23 and run through July 23 every year, thus beginning with the Sonic Adventure 2 release date and ending a month later. Since I don't have a specific Sonic-themed quest, I could always put Frantic Fauna up again, seeing as it was inspired by the SCHTServ Hildefail summer event in the first place. Laughing

My preference would probably be to start on June 23 and end July 23, since that both puts the emphasis on the SA2 release date and puts the event closer to the middle of summer.

What say you?

Do you think maybe during certain days, the stats of the enemies or exp or hell even prizes could change during those months?

How about a Sonic Knuckle as a prize for the summer quest?

Actually, provided Tinkerbell's dog is still in the mission category, you can still get the sonic knuckles fairly easily.

That being said, perhaps an event with the triad max attacks or something? I'm really not too sure as I have yet to get the prizes or attempt to play them since its finals week but like a Time Attack with teams or solo would be kind of fun. The only downside to this is our population of course. Sad

It's funny you should mention that; BlueCrab was just telling me yesterday that he's trying to set up a way to let the server count kills, since I suggested it some time ago. If he succeeds, we could actually set up special events with kill milestones, even though the game isn't server side.

Shh! you're not supposed to tell people about my crazy new ideas for features (although, you really didn't here, so that's ok, I guess). Laughing

IMO, you could of made a quest where the server logs kills to unseal the SJS.

TJS is too fucking good and needs to be hard to get.

In all reality, I'd be up for an event like that, it would give me inclination to get to 161 or at least level a few times in the process. xD

There's no way to know if you're using SJS to get the kills.

Don't tell me it didn't occur to you that Sonic's birthday is June 23! Come on, that's the best time to do it!

IMO, either June 1-30 or June 23-July 23 both work fine.

As you noticed here, Frantic Fauna is back for the summer event. Sonic mode has been enabled for several weeks already. Razz
