Yet another thing Japan has that the USA doesn't...

I know this is kind of old news, but I think that this is one of the coolest uses of technology to date.

What is that? You may be asking.

Well, it's Hatsune Miku--a holographic Japanese pop-star. Sort of. The performance was live, though--no added movie effects to the video shown there.
There is a screen and 2 projectors (some speculate using binocular parallax) that create a holographic effect. Now, this was in 2010. Apparently when they tried it in 2011, it failed hard because they used just a plain TV instead of a translucent screen and the animation was much more crude.

Basically, the technological aspect failed when SEGA didn't get involved. (Yes, believe it or not, this is SEGA's doing. Wink Or, at least, the 2010 "good" concert was...)

Anyway, focussing on the 2010 concert, here is more information:

and

What do you guys think about this?

I've seen this before actually, it doesn't look as bad.

But then again Holographic or not, I don't need another reason to go to a concert except for who's on stage.

Hmm... I just found more info on why SEGA didn't do the 2011 show.
http://nebs66.livejournal.com/1287091.html

So, SEGA did something really right and not lazy at all for once? Wow. So that's what can happen when Sega puts all they've got into something, hunh... If only that translated into their Sonic Team-related department...

Note: I'm not saying Sega's always lazy.... I think most of you guys get what I'm trying to say here.

If we're talking about just Hatsune Miku here, we have VOCALOID too. Hell, I use it, and her, and I use UTAU, with 23874892743 more voicebanks than VOCALOIDs... what, 26?

Including my own voicebank *shotdead*

If we're talking about the holograms, I'm pretty sure its just fancy lights projected onto a transparent screen that makes it LOOK like a hologram.
We're doing this at my school now. XDDD; Without making DVDs cause our cameras (and our amateur cameraworkers) suck. XD

Not really impressed, though I have to say, I spazzed out at the 2010 concert. Totally awesome.
2011 concert was horrible.

If I have to say anything about SEGA being lazy, they are often, but they put 100% of their heart and soul into everything VOCALOID nowadays. They really love it. XD
