Transferring characters to different DC
In the days before the HL server went down, I played pso on Schtack's server using v2 US, My characters were generated using a shared serial. When I bought another DC, I entered the same serial, and somehow all the characters were playable on the both DCs, although I was not sure of the access key. I now have another DC, but have not been able to transfer the characters to it, despite using the same serial. I flashed the memory, and entered the serial, and the access key that I remember (may not be exact ak), but the strange thing is that one of my characters is able to transfer, but the others say reload. I am really confused now. The only difference I can think of is that I have not gone online with that character. I have also not yet attempted to connect to the isp yet with the "new" dc. Would this make a difference? Maybe I should use the web browser with the dc before checking again? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Transferring characters to different DC
The procedure for "aligning" a new Dreamcast with your old serials so that your old characters work again is the following:
Of course, this requires you to know your serial number and access key. To my knowledge, you need both. If you forgot one, or if your characters contain both Ver.1 and Ver.2 serials and you forgot either of them, you're in trouble. Furthermore, you can't do this anymore if your characters are NTSC-U, since USv2 can't go online.
Theoretically, the stuff with creating a new character isn't necessary. All you should have to do is flash the Dreamcast, insert Ver.1, enter the serials, insert Ver.2, enter the serials, and then your old characters should work. If they don't, it sounds like you have incorrect information. One way to find out what your serials actually are is to go online with a working Dreamcast and character, and then quit. Start a new character without restarting the Dreamcast, and try to go online. PSO will ask you for your serials, and the ones from the character you were using will already be entered. Of course, you can't do this with EUv2, because it will reject your serial number, and thus you'll never be able to reach the access key to see what it was. Maybe if you load a character offline using USv2 and then try to make a new character and go online with it, you'll be able to discover your access key.
- Reset the flash memory using PlanetWeb 1.0 or a flasher that is known to work.
- Insert Ver.1, and PSO will ask you to enter your serial number and access key. Do so, and they will be written to the flash memory.
- Create a new Ver.1 character and go online. Once you're in the lobby, quit.
- Turn off the Dreamcast and remove Ver.1.
- Insert Ver.2, and PSO will ask you to enter your Ver.2 serial number and access key. Do so, and they will be written to the flash memory.
- Load your Ver.1 character, and perform the Ver.1 -> Ver.2 conversion procedure. When the conversion is complete, go online. Once you're in the lobby, quit.
- Your Dreamcast is now "aligned", and your old characters will work.

Re: Transferring characters to different DC
I do not have PSO v1. My characters are already v2, and they can get online fine with my other dreamcasts. Just not with the one I recently acquired. They were always v2, so no conversion from v1 is necessary. Do I still have to go through the v1 procedures? Also any idea why only 1 of my characters was transferable? I have the DC flasher from the download section, and planetweb 2.0, not 1.0. Is there any way to save a character on the server and download it to a new VMU? Sorry, just looking for any suggestions that may be helpful.

Re: Transferring characters to different DC
Unfortunately, due to the way that the /save and /restore commands work, no there's no way to save to the server and get them back. That set of commands is done completely on guildcard number, and being that you'd be using a new dreamcast, you'd get a new guildcard number to go along with it (on the DC, guildcard numbers are based on three factors: serial number, access key, and a unique Dreamcast ID).mahkbooks wrote:I do not have PSO v1.
