Couple questions.
A. what's everyones favorite classes for solo and team play
B. Swords or Daggers? I like hitting multiple enemies with swords, but they're slow, Daggers can dish it out, but it's easy to get swarmed playing solo (especially with the extra offline monsters maps)

Re: Suggestions
HUnewearl =
You need both. The best weapon to use depends on the situation. If you have a lot of enemies to kill at once, use a multi-target weapon. If there's only a few, use a weapon that hits a single enemy repeatedly.

Re: Suggestions
Definitely a two way tie between RAcast and FOnewearl, RAcast because it was the first class I ever used on pso and it still creates for much of a challenge in a solo game, giving a bit more longevity when playing with one imo, but I suppose it varies on situation and FOnewearl because I just like playing them, I didn't play one very far in depth until recently and while they remain to be quite an interesting challenge throughout the duration of playing them due to low hp and low atp, as well as the inability to use a good majority of weapons in the game, but I just can't seem to stop playing mine lol, even though my highest is a HUmar in all honesty I don't recommend playing the class unless you are a beginner, simply because its kind of boring after lvl 130 when you can pretty much kill everything in sight with a pick :/ still a solid (but broken) class.
I like to alternate between both personally, in all honesty I can't say im too fond of either, if I had to choose I suppose I would pick a sword because of easier crowd control capabilities, but both have particular moments where they work much better than its counterpart, my personal preference would have to like in mechs, rifles, and partisans

Thanks for the suggestions and comments. Think I'll see how far I can get a HUnewearl for the time being

Re: Suggestions
For some reason I always pick classes based on looks instead of stats....If it looks hot...I'm playing as it...Kind of an odd quirk but it works for me i suppose...

Re: Suggestions
Go for whatever works for you, I recommend trying different character types out for yourself before you really choose on what you like the most, maybe trying one from all character classes should give you a better idea of what each class demands and the benefits of using that class, in all reality it depends on your playing style, but yeah this is pretty much cliche advice so ill leave it at that, try em all, see what you like

Re: Suggestions
is it just me or is there an incredible lack of decent guns in the early game... i mean, a rifle helps with the forest, but doesnt cut it in the caves im hoping to find a decent handgun (the one thats better than the actual handgun) or a mechgun but so far no luck... gonna be a long tedious time through three levels of caves doing 9-12 damage to everything

if you do, dont get s-rank mech, get needle and grind grind grind griiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiind yer way to our level.
Re: Suggestions
I was the same way, but Ives and others convinced me to get mech first, then needle. Simply because needle is so cheap...

i too see that needle is cheap, but catching up to Ives and everyone else is a priority. (even thou ive been SHLACKIN most of the time )
get needlz.
Re: Suggestions
I can guarantee you that if you want to quit this game the fastest, using a needle will do that for you, needles make the game boring and will most likely piss off everyone who is with you in a team, because you will destroy everything with it so fast, that no one can usually hit. If you're respectful then you wait to let everyone hit then thats nice but it makes the game boring really fast. I've had an srank needle before and I never used it because on a humar/hucast it can really ruin the game for people, I stopped using it on my humar unless I really needed it because the needle is just annoyingly powerful.
if you like raping everything in sight in a few seconds then by all means get a needle, but imo it can really make the game boring especially used in conjunction with a hunter, a ranger using one typically isnt too terrible, Nash uses a srank needle in game because his ramar just simply doesnt have quite the firepower potential in later stages of ultimate, so dynamically it helps him but isnt annoying to play on a team with. its really dependent on how its used I guess...
push comes to shove if you ever complete cmode and you cant decide on what to get, go for a bazooka or ban hammer, mix it up xD

Re: Suggestions
Spread Needle, on the other hand, is a great team tool. It's one of the best support weapons in the game.
Re: Suggestions
This is true, just use it sparingly when in game with new people or you will make some fast enemies xD

Re: Suggestions
Too lazy to post actual stats between the two but all you have to know is this, spread needle you find in vhard ruins, it is a fantastic weapon to have in the beginning difficulties but it becomes practically useless in ultimate in the vanilla game, (uncertain of its abilities in the EP, maybe Ives can weigh in on that one) with hit, usually rangers can use it in ultimate, but usually it doesn't do too awful much damage
The S-rank needle on the other hand can often be thought of as the spread needles older brother xD, basically given a shitload more atp and boosted on other stats in order to do a ton more damage in ultimate.
The other main reason the S.Needle doesn't hit very often in ultimate is due to its classification as a Version 1 Rare(Yellow Text), meaning that it was only given enough ata to be able to damage effectively in the first 3 difficulties, I don't think sega took the time to buff the ver 1 rares for ultimate so when the monsters got a serious stat boost, most of the ver 1 weapons became pointless to use without massive amounts of Hit% tacked on :/ Ver 2 Rares were meant for ultimate for the most part (shiny red or solid red colors) aside from the few lolrares that are in the game
To comment as well, I'm not certain if the yellow text classifies all ver 1 weapons, there may be a few exceptions on this, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong if someone knows this for certain.

Re: Suggestions
I believe the special is different too... the spread needle will stun or confuse (cant remember wich) but the srank needle i got from bankmod cast zonda or some stupid crap... so spread needle i can only assume = better team play weapon pre-ultimate

Re: Suggestions
ok here goes...
all sranks (not just needle) have a special special.
That special is that they cast shifta, deband, jellen, zalure, 1hko (hell?), resta, freeze, paralysis, and/or confusion (did I miss any?). Some weapons like srank mechs can cast 3 at once (9 total), but one like rifle can only cast 1 per hit (3 total).
It ain't crap!

Re: Suggestions
@ Colin
You've pretty much summed it up. All weapons from Ver.1 have the yellow text, and all of those weapons were only given enough ATP/ATA to be useful in Very Hard mode. Sega didn't alter any of them when they released Ver.2, so they all either miss or do zero damage in Ultimate. You are also correct that I made many Ver.1 rares stronger with the EP so that they do actually work.
Spread Needle is a good support item for team play because it's not a killing tool in Ultimate. It has low ATP, but unlike S-Rank weapons it has a static special (Arrest). Being able to paralyze five enemies at once with Needle range is quite useful, especially if you're using an android. Kazumi's use of a Spread Needle allows us to do Ludicrous mode with only two people.
S-Rank Needle is only a killing tool, as the S-Rank special is too dangerous to use on most enemies without potentially giving them Shifta and getting yourself killed. As a result, people just attack with it and wipe the floor instead.

This is what I was talking about playing as a hot chick...Kinda odd I know but I didn't kick everyone's ass in street fighter 2 for the SNES who would dare play with me by not picking Chun-Li..Come on =P. Though I don't know how the other characters play, I didn't even know how the HUnewearl would play since I'm a complete newb to the scene so it was a shot in the dark, but it's workin' for me. Still all this talk about FO, RA, HU etc, etc, is still a bit mind boggling to me though. Oddest names for classes I've ever seen since I'm used to seeing "fighter, mage, cleric, ranger, barbarian etc" in most games...

Re: Suggestions
its really easy, HU = hunter (fighter), RA = ranger (missle user) and FO = force (magic user)... then the cast/caseal is androids, newm/newearl are newmans, and mar/marl? are the humans
i'm not really a total n00b to pso, i owned it when it first came out on DC, then again when EP 1&2 came out for GC, i even owned EP 3 for GC, boy was that crap... its just been so long, that i have all but nearly forgotten everything i used to know. Like exactly how much De Rol Le or whatever his name is sucks when you are a fighter

Unfortunately I never got to enjoy the spoils of a DC when it first came out, I did see them in stores and demos of games but never once laid hands on one, or even knew anyone who had one. It wasn't until November of last year that I actually had one, since one of my moms co-workers was wanting to get rid of it for 25 bucks. Unfortunately all he mostly had were sports games, which I'm not to privy too. So I recently went on a burn craze two weeks ago and PSO was one of the first I got. since I got it for my xbox but couldnt play it since you have to register online first (bullshit!! and yeah this was when XBL1 was still online but I didn't have an ethernet cable) so i trashed it..What good is a game when you can't even flippin play it! >.< So yeah upon testing it on my DC I was giddy like a japanese school girl at an 80's pop concert. Did some research and lo & behold, here I am on PC. I'm hoping to get a BBA one of these days and PSO-PAL so I can play it on my DC as well..but that wont be for a little bit.
Though upon thinking about it. the HU, RA, FO kinda made sense to me shortly after I posted. However the FO confused me a little. but I gotcha now.

Re: Suggestions
you know that sega has the pso v1 and v2 DC instruction manuals in pdf form on their support site if you want them...
Nowadays it seems as though there will almost always be a BBA on ebay, there's this one guy who has like a million, both black and white, too. (Blacks cost $50 more tho)
