How to do this? (networking involved)
How would I need to set up my DC so that I can plug a crossover cat5e from its bba to my laptop to connect to pso? I know I can't just enable Internet Connection Sharing and plug them both in and hope it works.
I tried that before, and only Planetweb 3.0 can work that way.
Please helpy if you know what to do or have an idea of what to do.
Thanks in advnace (why am I putting this here? Oh well.)

Re: How to do this? (networking involved)
-.- I mean for on-the-road things. I'm only asking this because I'm away from home for long enough time that I should worry about this.
...And the place where I am is a cave. Internet connection is consistent but very low connection (no d/cs yet, though), no router, no broadband ports in any wall. Even the "rental" desktop is hooked up to an antenna that doesn't even have a wired port--just a straight antenna.
And now you know why I'm asking this.

I tried windows 98, but tooo many real-mode driver conflicts and other messups.

I can connect with Pweb through it if I set it up.
PSO doesn't work the same way as pweb (configuration wise)
I'm trying to understand how to configure pso to work like this:
PSO DC w/BBA---Crossover Broadband cable----Laptop running xp (NO DIALUP involved)-------internet/servers
It works direct-connect to router, pweb works direct connect to lappy with ICS, PSO does NOT work like I just said pweb does.
Is that clear enough? I hope it is, but if it isn't just ask me to fill in the blanks.

err why not internet/services ----- dreamcast? you have bba, why make it even more difficult?
and if i got something wrong, then dont blame me you wrote so confusingly with the pweb.

oh, no wonder
Re: How to do this? (networking involved)
PWEB=OK
Q3A=OK (they both work with turning connection to shared, and directly plugging DC into laptop)
PSO=some server error,
but when I use same config from USv2 and plug into router, no problems.
I think it might be that the ICS assigns an IP address to the thing plugged in, 192.168.0.1, and the thing plugged in has its own IP that's conflicting?
(I have q3a and pweb set for dhcp, and pso for static ip, but pso with dhcp also doesn't work when lappy connected.)
I found a router.
Guess where it was?
hooked up to the modem, ON, in the house's basement.
gfg that was hard to find!
...and I didn't bring the keyboard.
