Re: <<Our Rare Findings Thread>>

Post  Seismica on Thu Mar 26, 2009 2:25 am

The room i mentioned on ruins 2, i recently got a God/Ability from there Razz Hopefully i'll get a God/battle from it next time.

I don't get any good stuff on ruins 3, its always ruins 2 where i get the rarer items it seems.

EDIT:

After beating Dark Falz on vhard i tried my hand at Ultimate. On my 3rd forest run (i can't beat Sil Dragon yet no way lol), i got myself a red handgun Razz

0% stats on all, but its the best weapon i have by far (well.. 45% VISK rifle does more damage, but its machine type, and i hate the mines Rolling Eyes )

Is it worth grinding it? or should i wait til i get one with decent stats?

It doesn't really matter; Grinders are easy to get, so if you have spares you can grind it. It could take you a while to find one that's really good, i.e. 40% or higher.

So i used my grinders on the basic red hangun.

And then...

I just found another one, with 35% dark and 5% machine... Check the screenshot thread. I knew that would happen, as soon as i use my grinders i find a better one Mad

The response

I like them because they are pretty rare and the fact I was able to find one is pretty sweet plus they are fun to use as well, well at least when they are legit

Reasons why needles are good:

Rifle speed, relatively high damage, shotgun spread. Although i think they only have mechgun range (not sure on that part... pso-world is not loading for some reason)

They are one of the most damaging weapons in the game (but there must be a number of targets, so good on bosses and large groups of enemies i.e. claws). With high %s they are one of the most effective weapons in the game, especially for rangers who have high accuracy.

I want one, but isn't there a minimum play time for them to drop? I don't think 22 hours is enough (its been on 22 hours for the past 15 or so hours of gameplay, i think it may be glitched Crying or Very sad )

In other news... i got myself a Stag Cutlery. No %s, but double sabers are my favourite weapon types, not very effective (compared to mechguns and handguns, which i usually use) but so fun to use Razz. I know they are not that rare, will be looking out for more on my forest runs Razz

I also got myself an Ancient Saber from ult forest 2. Not sure how rare they are (again pso-world not loading) but i'm annoyed, i can't use it Sad Ah well, it only has 0% stats so its no big loss i guess.

Needles have more range than a Shot but less than a Handgun.

Neither Stag Cutlery nor Ancient Saber are rare. Ancient Saber's rate is 220.

I know what a Needle is.
However I think they're one of the best tools to ruin the game of your fellow players.
For Ultimate Mode you normally need a S-Rank version respectively which does not lessen my resentment for the original one as it was designed for use in V1.
I've seen enough people using either versions and only a very few know how to use them in a socially acceptable manner.

I don't think they're fun to use which is a very arguable issue, exspecially considering solo games. For many people this may be true and that's perfectly okay.
Yet I think that it's barely arguable that many people do not enjoy their teammates to use them except for those fortunate players who don't care about mostly anything of course.
In addition to players like me who notoriously complain there are many silent adventurers who instantly quicken the game's pace when just spotting a Spread Needle. This makes people like me complain even more about them.

The range of that weapon was tweaked in later games for a reason.

To say it in a polemical way: With the given features like speed, range and number of targets the weapon is a manifestation of laziness, impatience and inappropriate ease.
I will never understand the developer's idea behind the Spread Needle. There's a varied choice of weapon types most of them with unique features, advantages and disadvantages, distributed in a fair manner*. What does the game need an all-in-one monster for?

*Statements about fairness do not relate to forces. No matter if it's about weapon types, tights or the Spread Needle.

I just don't get it.
Congratulations anyway. At least you've found an aesthetically flawless weapon.
Please use it carefully.

Spread Needle is far from a super weapon, considering it's junk once you hit level 80. As for what Sega's motives were, you seem to be under the illusion that they had a wish to create even a semblance of balance in the game. Sega's repeated botching of PSO balance should demonstrate that they had no idea what they were doing, so obviously there are plenty of broken weapons in PSO. Razz

Every real time Phantasy Star game has screwed up balance. Sega's just not good at this. Phantasy Star Universe actually is ok as far as balance goes, but could be a lot better. Ironically, balance in that was better before AoI came out.

Apparently Forces are the new DPSers in PS0 too. Here's the kicker-it's both in melee and techniques. According to everyone who's played it Hunters are just meat shields for the Forces now. Sad

Forces finally got their revenge I suppose. =3

Well

Post  MuCast on Tue Mar 31, 2009 1:23 am

In terms of the needle, I am very well aware of the situation by means of using them in a party and how annoying they can be, And I can assure that i do not use them in a party unless i ask, personally since my files recently got corrupted and i lost about 500+ hours on one of my characters, a quick way to gain some levels is greatly appreciated

I have played PSO for countless years previous to being able to get online and have never found one, needless to say I was pretty happy, and while it may be junk after lvl 80, I find it satisfying to use the needle because it is probably one of the rarest weapons I have found while playing, evidently i wasnt very lucky in finding good weps with %s lol

Anyway I can assure im not one of those people that goes into a game and slaughters every enemy in the game just for the fun, not fair to the people playing nor is it right for me to do that so yea Very Happy
