Gameplay speed
I recently had to reformat my harddrive and i switched from using to vista and i am currently using xp now. For some reason the gameplay in offline mode is fine but when i start a quest and reach the first area with monsters, it lags badly. Same hapens in online mode. I made sure i installed all the drivers including my graphics card driver which is ATI Catalyst. My graphics card has 256 RAM and the speed is 401Mhz. It worked fine before and now i cant seem to work out why it lags so much. If anyone can shed some light on this i would appreciate it as graphics cards are not my forte.

Re: Gameplay speed
Have you also updated Direct X? Are you using any service packs? Check the number of running processes, you may have a ton of bloat that needs to be cleaned.

Re: Gameplay speed
Yeh i did all that. One of my friends realised that my laptop manufacturer (Dell) has tweaked the graphics card for vista and so when PSO was running in XP there was confusion as to which graphics card i was using making it very slow. Now i have reinstalled vista it works fine.

Re: Gameplay speed
I would have opted for fixing my graphics card, but whatever. xD

Re: Gameplay speed
I've been having similar problems with the running speed of PSO going slow in offline mode, I use a COMPAQ laptop which came with Vista installed, I will be double checking the requirements and making sure that I do meet them all, but in the meantime if any suggestions could be offered it would be highly appreciated. It only seems that it runs slow when it has the NPC sprites on screen in Pioneer 2, and most of the time when in Forest 1 (Haven't gone farther than that yet). Is there a way to adjust the graphic usage of the game that I'm not aware of or may have missed?

Re: Gameplay speed
If you go to the options from the autorun, you can configure the game's graphical settings to be less demanding, though it will make PSO look far worse if you do.

Re: Gameplay speed
Thank you, that worked out perfectly, I didn't have to cut down on all graphics, just a few and it worked out to be a decent compromise

Re: Gameplay speed
I hope you didn't have to turn on frameskip or make your Boomas look like giant squares to get it running smoothly. xD
